Originally released in 1992 on Muzak, an Italian label founded by Leo Mas, Fabrizio Lazzari and Andrea Gemolottoand, which was fundamental in establishing a new Italian dance floor electronic sound in the early 90s strongly intertwined with US influences from what was happening in Detroit and New York at the time. Officially re-issued with new remix of "Fearless" by Berlin based Trent, stripping down the feisty banger from its breakbeat elements and implementing a new Acid feel to it.
Since its the very beginning, Chat Noir Tools has been a home for new and upcoming producers with the goal of discovering the future talents of our scene. We’re glad to present a new debut release by French artist Mitsunobu, founder of the Youtube channel Metroid Vibes. With his Neurodancer EP, he shows his love for 90’s influenced house music. Watch out!
Rework's classic 2002 cut 'You're So Just Just' gets fresh remixes fromTroxler X Crosson and Cinthie alongside an updated version from the actthemselves.Underground mainstays Rework released this standout track on thelegendary Playhouse label and it is one that established them aspioneers right from the off. It was followed by several vital albums andreleases on the same label, as well as the likes of Visionquest andexlove records. Here, they revisit their original, which features vocals from Laetitia, andupdate its cold minimal grooves with fresh energy. The bass rolls deep, and the drums are snappy and upright as the edgy chords keep thingsfull of suspense. Laetitia's soulful stylings are cut up and smearedthrough the mix to make for a brilliantly driving and emotive track.Visionquest co-founders and long-time techno talents Seth Troxler andRyan Crosson also pair off for a remix. Their version is full of trippysound designs and wiggling hooks. It's a tightly interwoven minimalgroove with an afterparty feel, and the original vocals bring their ownseductive vibe. The second remix comes from much-loved Berlin native Cinthie, whoruns the Elevate store and 803 Crystal Grooves label. She recentlyserved up a fantastic mix for the legendary DJ Kicks series and bringsher timeless sound to this remix. It is raw, dusty and perfect for sweatybasements, as its hypnotic loops and punchy kick patterns are draped inold-school chord vamps. This is a great update to a dance music classic from a fine selection ofscene favourites.
Makèz deliver the perfect follow up to their hit ‘Downstream’ with L.A.artist Life on Planets.Dutch Duo Makèz had their big break when we released their fi rst recordon Heist in 2019, but it’s safe to say that ‘Downstream’ (on No Artrecords) has taken things to the next level for the talented Amsterdamduo. With support from pretty much the whole of Radio 1 (Pete Tong,Jaguar, Sarah Story, Danny Howard and more), and club DJ’s across theboard ranging from ANOTR to Louie Vega, their fall 2023 release hasreally been a dream collab with vocalist and producer Life on Planets. It’s only fi tting that the duo comes home to Heist with their follow upEP: ‘Midnight time’.This new EP is a perfect blend of the intricate, soulful songs and punchyclub tracks we’ve come to love from Makèz, On the A-side, we’ve gotthe jazz cut ‘Closer’ with AVA LAVÁ, who fans will remember from theirHoly Sun EP on Heist. ‘Closer’ is equally laidback, full of textures andrich musical elements and a perfect mood-setter for the EP.Next is ‘Running from the noise’ with Life on Planets on vocals. This isthe follow up to Downstream that simply had to happen. It’s just asbreezy and eff ortless as the duo’s biggest hit to date, but goes evendeeper and minimalistic, taking you on a vibe that resembles the soundof that classic 100% Galcher mixtape/album from 2013. There’sdefi nitely something in the air when these artists get together in thestudio; The music is warm, fuzzy, and inviting, but most importantly, just about as sexy as can be.‘Midnight time’ is another collaboration with AVA LAVÁ, and takes the EPinto the club realm, while still keeping things jazzy. Lush Rhodes chordsand a rolling live bass form the basis, while the young vocalist seems tofreestyle her way through the track, much in a way an MC would do toget the crowd going. Everything about this track is infectious and youcan just feel this go off in a club. That club is exactly where we end up on the B-side, with ‘The Answer’and ‘Gratitude’. Both have their own direction; ‘The Answer’ is aChicago-inspired jam with acid licks, a powerful male vocal and clean909 drums, where ‘Gratitude’ goes deeper with its haunting strings, clever vocal chops and loops and synths that somehow resemble staticnoise from an old radio. With their ‘Midnight Time’ EP, Makèz treat us toa gorgeous journey through their sonic world, a place we’re happy to2 of 2 WAS - Word and Sound Medien GmbHhang out for a long, long time.As always, enjoy the music and play it loud!Lars & Maarten
Lerosa (Uzuri, Idle Hands, Lunar Disko) adds to his esteemed discography with an EP composed entirely during the summer of 2020. Several of his musical influences – I.M.S., Lee 'Scratch' Perry, James Stinson – can be heard across these four diverse tracks, as he jumps nimbly from italo to dub to house to electro. As always with Lerosa, though, the sound that emerges is distinctively his own, the result of daily cat-assisted studio time at his home in Dublin.
The Prodigy Carlos Nilmmns Is Back on Skylax With Once Again a Splendid 12 Inch! His Style Is a Mixture of Refinement and the Most Beautiful Things That House Music Has Ever Produced, Moodymann, Theo Parrish in the Lead but Not Only That, We Must Also Add the Masters Lalo Schifrin, Donald Byrd and Even Henry Mancini. This Ep Starts With a Bang With the Sublime "Nes", Three Letters Which Alone Sum Up the Small Miracle of Bringing Together Both the Ghosts of Detroit and the Most Beautiful Cinematic Music Directly Inherited From the Glorious 70s. "Believe" Plows the Same Furrow With a More Mental Universe and to Conclude "Parisian Nights" (Jazz Version) Which We Swear Would Not Have Been Missing on an Impulse Album. Side B Opens With "Celebration" Which Sounds More Club Tool for Once With Obviously This Je Ne Sais Quoi That Is Far Superior to All Current House Productions. and This Ends With the Club Version of "Parisian Nights", a Real Volute of Sound.
