Sex Tapes From Mars return with four more scintillating dancefloor-centric beats procured from the outer regions of the galaxy for your listening pleasure. STFM004 is the amalgamation of two original productions extracted from an evasive 12” by Gulf Breeze presented alongside two reinterpretations courtesy of star strikers of the Paris underground Nemo Vachez & Muelsa. Though each track possesses a distinct flavour, all four are unanimous in providing fuel for the peak time of the party utilising hypnotic percussion, driving basslines and an on the nose vocal commanding the listener to Dance as the record spins.Originally written in London in 1995, both original mixes of Something Strange retain their potency and with a fresh remaster, sound larger than ever. Both the OG and Mr & Mrs Do The Business mix effortlessly cruise into a state of frenzied euphoria via two unmistakable basslines which leave no raver behind. The B side first sees Nemo Vachez apply his slick hand to the track, acknowledging its character but making it totally his own. The Alien Garage Mix is a slinky cut of UKG with added extraterrestrial seasoning, chiming into a perfect recipe for an efficacious dancefloor bomb. On B2 Muelsa provides a genre blurring remix which pays homage to the golden era of house from which the original harks, whilst adding a spin which is entirely of the moment. The staunch, driving percussion leads the track through a dreamy acid trip that pulls you in multiple directions before resolving into a final blissful trance.

Completing Dsum's latest album, 'Double Distance' emerges as the final quintet of tracks, igniting a celestial voyage for listeners. Opening with the pulsating energy of 'Protons,' the EP traverses the electro/techno spectrum, paying homage to electronic music's nascent era. From introspective ambient tones to pristine explorations of electro soundscapes, each track encapsulates a sonic odyssey of depth and innovation. 2024 RepressWriting about techno is quite difficult without falling into cliché: there are only so many ways that you can say something about a music whose core elements are forged on deliberate repetition; where real talent is attributed to those who can find the perfect groove where nothing needs added or subtracted to hold the listener’s attention for upwards of five minutes.Such tracks are the hallmark of Tresor’s catalogue, and this joy in repetition can be found in works from Detroit, Berlin, Birmingham, Edinburgh, and more. And it is through this lens that Parisian artist, UFO95, focuses his output, resulting in Backward Improvement, an EP that sits perfectly in the spectrum of techno found in the Tresor chronology.The title itself makes an abstract reference to the influence of the classics of the genre, inspiring him to take a distinct less-is-more approach to production for this collection of stripped-down yet unrelenting techno chiselled from the live set which has fixed UFO95 as one of the next holdfasts for the future of the scene.Perhaps it is the fact the UFO95 only performs live that had led to such crisp and focussed studio productions.; each of the tracks showcase the artist’s burgeoning talent for creating the essential foundations of techno; perfect, looping, instinctual grooves that are counterbalanced by an apprehensive tension from off-key tones.Backward Improvement marks the addition of a new name in the list of techno’s best producers and proves that while the genre may now be in its 40th year there are yet sonic explorations to be made and variations that are worth unearthing.
