Matt Hodgson's 7th Voyage is one of those mid-90s labels that enjoyed cult status almost from the off. Its releases helped to define the sound of the London underground of the time and have since become pricey and sought after. The Return Voyage is a new seven-track collection of back-catalogue gems that pays tribute to the label's fine work. From the deep and atmospheric 'Big Hips Blue Gloves (No Dubs)' by Tactics Of Bass to the squelchy lo-fi hip-hop funk of The Secret Garden's 'Rough Diamond,' this is a vital look back at a hugely influential label.

The agenda-setting Sushitech has a just as influential sub-label, Pariter, which welcomes the one and only tech house instigator, Terry Francis, for a rare and essential reissue. Francis was there at the birth of original tech house with his killer Wiggle parties and fabric residency and now kicks off what will be a limited series that digs into his archives. These first offerings were originally released on Eukahouse 25 years ago, with opener 'Notice Board' bringing a thumping low end and wiggling bassline that is topped with smooth chord work. 'Hello, Acid Dathera' (unreleased retake version) is a busier sound with a tribal edge and restless drums and bass with acid daubs and crisp hi-hats, making it a full body workout.
Robs returns to Overground with "Transient Realities”, an EP that navigates between deep introspection and dancefloor energies.
KEY Vinyls 47th release dives into a silver-plated, machine driven world crafted by Eduardo De La Calle: Kapila. Across four chapters, De La Calles veteran touch shaped by over 25 years of sonic innovation brings to the label a sleek yet abrasive metallic landscape. The A side opens with Kardama, unfolding a funky yet metallic interplay with sharp bells and stinging rides slicing through a round, acidic bassline. The track proposes a wide spatial range of sounds, a continuous exchange and interplay of elements.Khatvanga follows, soft yet needle-sharp a lullaby evoking complexity through simplicity. Deceptively minimalistic, its delicate construction disguises its robust power, marking a signature De La Calle moment: feeling held by a soft energy which is equally pungent. With Kankas, the tempo intensifies.Rugged surfaces and strong high frequencies merge with a type of construction that leans heavily on rhythm, channeling the pulse of a machine in its element. And lastly, Kala mutates into a sci-fi fever dream.Tense atmospheres build, the machines world grows fuller, and shimmering synths take on a life of their own. The result is a dense, captivating finale that mirrors the increasingly blurred line between man andmachine.
