Rising steadily out of obscurity since its launch in 2020, Magic Carpet has become a springboard for talent and an underground staple. Celebrating five years of magic, the label presents two VAs featuring a selection of artists from the Magic Carpet family. This first record (RIDE18) spans tingling euphoria, the grooved up and the blissed out, showcasing the housier end of the imprint’s hard-to-pin-down but unmistakably positive sound. Here’s to many more!
Pedro Goya returns for his second EP on Carpet & Snares with four cuts of electro-disco. ‘Bosac’ and ‘Dopalow’ make up the lean and mean A side, matching Chicago drums with italo arpeggiators and moody pads. Pedro turns up the funk on the B side with the French house swagger of ‘Paean’ before the bittersweet acid and deep bassline of the closing track, a memorial to his beloved dog ‘Nikita’.
Carpet & Snares boss Jorge Caiado is back under a new Caiado LDA alias with two tracks originally commissioned by Thomas Melchior for his My King Is Light project, now released through the Carpet/Patterns sublabel. Both sides strike a philosophical, almost spiritual tone, but for quite different ends. The A side ‘Process’ uses its tight skippy groove and central acid line as the foundation for peak-building Carl Craig drama, while the B side ‘Neverending Dream’ lands on a more tripped-out mood for the after- afters. Watch this space for more Caiado LDA material on the way!
Rotterdam's electro legend DJ Overdose steps up for the fourth release of All Nice Records with 'L.A.W.'', bringing a raw, deep, and unpredictable energy that only he can deliver! This one's for the heads -- four cuts of signature Overdose heat, ranging from shadowy electro rhythms to an unexpected twist on the B2 with an oriental-tinged vibe that hits different. A must for fans of true underground machine funk
Fresca Recs is here to bring the juice and bubblesClose pals Hazr (Magic Carpet) and Velvet Velour (Silky Beats) have joined forces to bring a fresh new vinyl series, delivering unreleased music from their favourite producers. To kick things off they've invited one of the smoothest cats to ever do it- Seafoam. West Coast goodness in its finest form. If you've been digging for deep house then you'll have certainly had your ears graced by the airy, brain soothing frequencies of Brian Cavender at some point or another. As prolific as they come, it was no surprise he had buckets of gems to dig through and choose from. Some old, some new... Four of which have been selected for FRESC01.Enjoy!
The Italian duo of Fabio della Torre & Ennio Colaci, founders of Bosconi Records, are in sprightly mood on their latest EP for Jorge Caiado’s Inner Balance label, one of the catalogues under Chez Damier’s legendary Balance imprint. Funky, snappy, playful — these four whipsmart house tracks skip along like Gemini records of old, trading sinuous leads and walking basslines with cheeky abandon. Minimono have been doing this for a while now yet their signature sound hits as fresh as ever.
