Exshaw... the haunted place where folks go missing in inexplicable ways, where ravers throw open air summer parties in the woods, where the raw nature shows its esoteric side to the explorative youth, an escape from the city. The inspiration for Ryan James Ford's debut album is also a tribute to time spent exploring there in his past! After living in Berlin for some years now he came to realisation of how much influence nature and the area surrounding his hometown (Calgary) had on him. Ryan has captured his experiences and musical influences over the years. Growing up in an area were the contrast of nature and technology was more than palpable. Stories of haunted areas, swimming in the cold river water, going to raves in the nineties. Exploration, optimism, youth and growing... His memories surrounding 'Exshaw' are all translated in the sound design and programming on this 14 track album ranging from almost cinematic pieces to full on dancefloor belters. Artwork by Delphine Lejeune & Jonathan Castro.
Lay Down The Groove is honoured to present its 4th record, named “Down Under”, which is the first of the new Split Series. This time, the label keeps focusing on the blooming Latin American scene and keeps working with close friends. On side A, LDG owners open the record with “We were one”, an electro piece that combines a sticky synth with melancholic arpeggios and deep pads. Following "Aloof from it”, a dancefloor-oriented banger, characterised by strong chords and breaks. Both tracks were recorded in Bogota, Colombia between late 2017 and along 2018, and mixed in Melbourne, Australia in 2019.On side B, the Argentinian Dj Braver delivers "Pick Phunk”, a deep track with a funky bassline that fits perfectly with the chords that pop from left to right creating an amazing and hypnotic groove. Closing the record, the Colombian artist Junn, who was part of our last digital release, presents “Apura”, a blend of solid beats and synths that turns into glitch sounds through the track from beginning to end.
Bologna’s own house G, Jacopo Latini, half of Data Memory Access, strikes again on Mood Waves’s fourth release. Classy Italian depths obtained through melodic synths and warm basslines.
