Connie & Karina join forces as C&K for the ‘Behave’ EP, coming via the UK’s Decay Records, featuring remixes from Molly and Mihai Popoviciu.Across the past decade Decay Records has released material from the likes of Neverdogs, Javier Carballo, Alex Arnout, Hanfry Martinez, Javi Bora and Jay Tripwire among others, cementing itself as a staple of the raw, underground house scene. Here the label welcomes Connie & Karina onto the roster under their C&K guise with a new project. The original mix of ‘Behave’ leads and lays down modulating synth swells, trippy vocal chants and airy synth textures atop a crisp, shuffled groove. Romania’s Mihai Popoviciu then reworks ‘ Behave’ next, embracing his signature aesthetic and reworking the original into a dubbed out, percussive led dance floor workout. On the flip-side is ‘January’, where C&K take a more dark and gritty approach via undulating synth flutters, ghostly atmospherics, a sturdy low-end drive and eerie chimes. French artist Molly then rounds out the release with her take on ‘January’, extracting the core essence of the original while twisting into something more ethereal, subtly unfurling and gentle aesthetically.
OBLREC003 a must-have for any UKG or breaks enthusiast with contributions from across the globe. On the A-Side, Columbia’s Espresso Bandini (aka Nicolas Duque) delivers “The Network” - guaranteed to devastate many dance floors with a deep baseline, infectious groove and memorable melodies. He’s joined by Brussels-based Enrico Dragoni, who serves up a very clean cut of UKG with "Dangeeeer”. The track features subtle hints of obscurity and a unique approach to UKG, which no doubt secures him as someone to watch out for.But that’s not all! Flipping to the B-Side gives us a sought-after repress of Double Identity’s “You Requested It”, released on Voltage Music in 2002. A timeless piece, taking you on a journey from front to back. The master that is Harry Wills jumps on the remix of the track, evolving it into a peak-time bomb and perfectly rounding out the VA with his magic touch.
EYA Records continues to deliver top-tier techno, house, and electro, and their latest record is no exception. This time, they’re shining a spotlight on Italian producer Mennie. The Plan EP is a sonic experience that flawlessly merges hypnotic beats, cutting-edge melodies, and an infectious dancefloor vibe.
Admirably no-nonsense house duo Dungeon Meat kick off a new label here, Slabs, which aims to serve up only the chunkiest hulks of wax aimed squarely at the club. Borren takes charge of the first platter and is the latest fast-rising talent to emerge from the ever-fertile Dutch scene. He has come up on a diet of Bret and Slapfunk parties and that shows in the tunes he presents here. 'Up Next' is heavy but silky, with gliding grooves and splashy cymbals next to cut-up vocals that will amp up any party. 'Beat My Shit' is another no-frills hardcore house assault with drums that have just the right amount of swing under old school chords and busy melodies that never rest. A fine first release.
Metropolitan Soul Museum are proud to present the first vinyl release on their Kulture Galerie label. The collection includes 4 liquid and deep tracks coming from 4 different artists: the wonderfully talented Gene Tellem, the power duo Abdul Raeva, NYC’ own Alien D and force of nature Nesa Azadikhah. Don’t sleep on it.
