With an album of unreleased tracks from 1986-1995 out very soon we turn our attention to the future past and proudly present a re-release of Professor Oz's 'Proz' EP. Originally released on Olivier Le Castor's ADSR Records back in '93 it's 5 tracks that were actually recorded in Paris in the late 80's that still sound as fresh today as when they were conceived. Packing a car full of studio gear (Synths, Rhythm Box, FX etc) and taking a road trip from Strasbourg to Paris to record the EP the final result is extremely impressive for a debut record. Under-the-radar and majorly overlooked Glaswegian label Beluga Records, founded and run by Lorne Walton & James Gray, operated mainly in the mid 90's and released a sleuth of music ahead of its time. Together they recorded and performed as Western Alliance and released two recently acclaimed EP's and it's there where we turn our attention to with their 'Atalanta EP' from 1996. Featuring four no-nonsense, stripped back, groovy, dancefloor rammers it's music that seems now more relevant than ever. Serious gear.
DJ Khetama aka Stefan Reimer released a steady stream of records on labels Hyper Hype and Time Unlimited during the mid 90's with much acclaim. For this Rezpektiva we have compiled tracks from those releases and put them onto one vinyl. Rezpekt to DJ Khetama !
Although known mainly for their work in Natural Born Grooves, Jaco Van Rijswijk and Bert Boon recorded one time as N.O.T. and released originally on Antwerp's Cold Records label back in 1997. This EP comprises three different versions of the main track entitled 'The Sound', one for every occasion. Bouncy, groovy and definitely one to make you move, this is 'The Sound.'
In the mid 90's Audio Science released two CD only albums that have gone on to be well received and lately revered. This LP has been compiled featuring the standout tracks originally released from those recordings on Aural X-Perience and Hypnotic.
A decade has now passed since Discrete Circuit launched the AWAY party and label in Berlin, hence this celebratory compilation featuring previously unheard cuts from label regulars and – perhaps more significantly – some very high-profile guests. Highlights from those in the latter category include the low-slung house haziness of Moodymann (the fabulous ‘No’), the piano-smothered deep house positivity of Move D (‘The Garden’), the ghostly techno-not-techno of Axel Boman (the nostalgic, warehouse-ready hypnotism of ‘Lucky Luke’) and the stomping techno intensity of Mark Broom (‘Ain’t No Thang’). You’ll also find treats aplenty from the AWAY crew, including Discrete Circuit’s own TB-303-powered acid throb-job, ‘Tenterhooks’. A suitably sensational anniversary collection all told.
